We have had a few enquires from Revit users wanting to know how to modify Hatch patterns in Revit or better yet create new custom hatch patterns so hence decided to post this blog.

For basic hatch patterns you can duplicate existing revit patterns and modify them to a point to change spacing, rotation angles etc be it Drafting or Model patterns.  You can also import AutoCAD patterns that you may be used to using with Autocad from the acad.pat or acadiso.pat file which again works to a certain point.  These files are typically located locally on your machine in the following location C:\Users\’yournamehere’\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2013 – English\R19.0\enu\Support or you may need to do a search for these files on your machine if not in that location.

However there is a nice little Addin available for Revit that is even better for modifying or creating new hatch patterns called Hatch 22 by Gregory Mertens and better yet is that its FREE.  The addin is compatible with versions 2011 – 2013

This cool little App will let you create almost any Dafting or Model pattern that you can imagine and then save it as a pattern file for use with Revit.  There are some pattern examples available on the website to give you some ideas so install it and give it a go!
